Character flaws are not mental disorders
Jealousy, envy, greed, hatred, anger, and so forth are not considered as mental disorders. Subsequently, one cannot get rid of different character flaws through healing methods, hypnotherapy, diet, techniques, counselling, and so on.
Vices and virtues form part of who we are. Even if we consciously try to prevent outburst of anger, first time we may succeed, second time maybe, but eventually sometime we will lose control. Suppression will not be a solution either, as it means exertion of poison inside the body and consequently illness occurs. In other words, some of our diseases are rooted in our worldview. Character flaws are negative personality traits that can also be one of the disease creation factors.
Purification from character flaws towards the perfect human being
To drop character flaws, literary means to move towards becoming “The perfect human being”. This is the purpose of mysticism. To direct one along the path of self-realization and facilitate the state of “perfection” is what mysticism is about. This ultimate goal cannot be achieved without the seeker’s direct involvement in the process.
In other words, mysticism shows the way and walks you through the path, but it is you who are the walker, the decision-maker. There would be no pride for the human if an external factor or technique could eliminate all their imperfections and make him a perfect human being.
On the other hand, some schools of mysticism first advise their disciples to go and do this and that and to purify themselves and then come back. If they could purify and sanctify themselves then why would they need to participate in a mystical discipline? They were already a “complete human being”.
